What We Do
Courses
The team provides support to local units as requested but the main function is running courses to enable cadets to achieve the standard necessary for the award of the ACO Communicator's Badge.
In order to make best use of the time available it was decided that a limited number of modules would be offered. This does not prevent units asking for other modules but sufficient courses are routinely provided to meet the requirements of the communicator's Badge scheme.
Courses are usually run at weekends with a bias towards Sundays so that cadets who work at weekends are inconvenienced as little as possible.
Courses are routinely offered to cover:
VHF/UHF Operator
Advanced Radio & Radar Exam
Advanced Satellite Communications Exam
Technical Skills
Internet Communications
HF long range field operations
Activities
The organisers of community activities often ask for help from
local Air Cadet units and the ACO fully supports such. Many of these
activities require radio communications and the team provides the
necessary expertise to support the units when requested.
Events such as Shoreham Air Show and the Uckfield Carnival are two
examples of this.
Within the organisation itself there are many activities where radio communications are used. These include the overnight South Downs Challenge and the Wing Training Weekend
